Chickens laying down in snow?

Today has been a rough day. I just found out one of my hens had reproductive cancer and had to have her put down. I went home and gave all the rest of the flock some tuna which they devoured and then let them out to free range. I went and did a couple of things and when I came back to my chickens, 2 of my hens and a rooster were just laying in the snow! This seemed really odd to me and I immediately panicked since I’m still upset over the loss of my hen. I looked and realized someone had laid down some salt to melt the ice that was there. Do you think they were laying there because it felt warmer? Should I be concerned? I’ve NEVER seen them just lay down on the ground so I’m a little worried.

They lay down quite often, nothing to be afraid of

Chickens are pretty hardy. I’m sure it was just comfortable. Nothing to worry about.

And i do believe they were there because it was warmer.

Best not to use salt or any kind of ice melt where chickens have access.

I'd be worried about them pecking up the salt and poisoning themselves.
