Chicken's Leg Seems Hurt

We noticed this hen limping and brought her in for observation. Her leg appears to be a little bowed out.

Any ideas as to what could be wrong? Or how to help?

We have her separated and are trying to get her to rest.

How old is she? It could be that she has been injured, and it would be good to know if the hock is bowed out or an upper joint? A hip dislocation is possible. Varus or valgus deformity is a leg issue that is common in chickens, and it can affect one or both legs in the hock. A tendon can rupture eventually, causing lameness.

A vet would be the best person to evaluate and treat this, and the sooner the better. Do you think she might have been injured by a rooster trying to mate or from jumping? If she has a varus deformity, that probably can’t be treated. Here is some reading with pictures about varus deformity:

I think there is a good possibility it's from a rooster trying to mate. I think we are going to take her in.
