Chickens like rain?

I open the door and let mine decide what they want to do. They have plenty of cover outside of the coop, so they can choose. There's not much that keeps them in- even the first time we had snow, they came out cautiously and were all running around in it a few minutes later. They didn't like it (you could see them thinking, "What the heck is this stuff?"), but their desire to go outside was more powerful than their dislike. I say as long as they are fully feathered, let 'em out.

When I read the book Open Air Poultry Houses; the write was talking about how good the rain is for their feathers. It is an opportunity to really get in their and get things fresh..give them a warm dry place to go..and they will be fine. Here we have days where it will be 95 and a monsoon will come in, rain so hard and fast...be gone in as little as 10 minutes and the sun comes out and dries everyone off..nice and clean.

Regarding rain vs sprinklers, mine have the same issue. Rain they don't even seem to notice, though the wind drives them bonkers. They hide in the bushes from the wind. The sprinkler, though, is a whole 'nother matter. They're terrified of it. They refuse to go near it, even when it's off.
