I have read many times how chickens like it and it is good for them, but my chickens won't touch yogurt !

What am I doing wrong?

Is it suppose to be flavored?

I think the first time I fed my chickens yogurt I sprinkled some scratch or sunflower seeds or some other recognizable treat on top so they all went for it, and then realized that the white stuff attached to the seeds was delicious too and then they were hooked! You just want to give them plain yogurt.

I just gave my girls a tiny bit of yogurt tonight.
They looked at it, sniffed it, and walked away.
Then, one of them kicked some wood shavings into the yogurt. All of a sudden, they attacked the dish like raving lunatics. The wood shavings must've looked like bugs in there or something. Too funny!
They wolfed the yogurt down after that.

I keep trying different treats each day. I only bring a very small amount, but I figure eventually, they'll see me with the dish and know something good is coming.

Have you tried any other treats?

I've heard that it's just a treat, but healthy for them because it has a lot of calcium and probiotics for their digestive system.
But it is a treat - not essential.

My girls were just recently introduced to yogurt and were terrified of it. They ran to the other side of their pen. i put some pieces of cilantro and grass hanging over the edge of the bowl and within minutes they were devouring some of their favorite "greens" and to their surprise, there was an extra treat in the bowl. Now they come running when they see me with the bowl.

Plain yogurt is best mainly because the flavored ones tend to have added sugar. But some "natural" brands of yogurt use fruit juice to sweeten the flavored kinds, which is fine. Ditto about the extra calcium and "good" bacteria.

make my own yogurt from my goats millk, the girls love it. They turned their noses (beaks?) up at the meal worms I got specially for them. That's gratitude for you!
