Hey šŸ‘‹ everyone. I’m Michael. Kinda new to the chicken world. About 2 years and liking it.
I have 3 (2 yrs old) chickens that look horrible. Feathers look very unhealthy and bald spots.
They share a coop and the whole big yard with 6 other 8 months old chickens (black) that look great.

One of the 3 2 years old has been loosing feathers for a year almost. Other 2 didn’t look healthy but not too bad till a Week ago. All other 6 look great for now.
I don’t have a rooster.
The ā€œbullyā€ of the bunch is the one looking bald so i don’t think any one is bullying her.
I’m in Nevada. It’s about 30-60 degrees here.

I feed them Organic pallets and grain. Bedding is sawdust. They run free and only sleep in the coop. Water is fresh. Any ideas what that is?

Thank you 😊 🄚 🐄

Vitamin supplement (niacin and thiamine)
Maybe they are eating the feathers which is from poor nutrition.
May need to consider supplemental nutrition or protein like the above poster mentioned.

You could check and see if it’s mites, and it could also be they’re not getting enough protein. You could give them something that has extra protein in it like mealworms.

Do you have a rooster? Some of the feather loss patterns look like damage from aggressive mating. I do see some new feather growth in a couple of the pictures.

Do you see feathers around the coop/run? When birds molt, it can sometimes look like there's been a pillow fight in the yard.

I agree with the others. Increase protein (cooked eggs, fish, higher protein pellets, chick starter, worms, etc) and check for lice/mites.
