I have 6 Isa chickens who have lost their tail feathers starting a few weeks ago. At first I thought it was molting but by pictures Ive seen of molting hens the de-feathering seem to start from the neck down.
Could this be mites ? TIA

Hi @Peekies :frow Can you post some photos?

Do you have any other chickens or a rooster?
How old are your girls?
What type of food/treats do you feed?

Without seeing them, we can only guess. Could be molting, depending on their age. Feather plucking is another cause of tail feather loss, so watch to see if they are plucking at each other.

Checking them over for lice/mites is always a good idea - if you find any, treat them with a Permethrin based poultry dust or spray - follow the label, but usually re-treatment is in 10-14days. Clean out the coop and treat it as well.

Thank you Wyorp Rock.
These are the only chickens I have. No rooster. Purchased them this spring just as they started to lay. Feed them omega feed and vegetable/fruit scraps. I have not seen them doing any plucking, although it might be going on.
