I woke up this morning to let my chickens out, as I do every morning, and they get full free-range of my whole yard. After about an hour, I went out to check on them. At the bottom of my stairs, I found my one rooster mating with my one hen! My chickens are about 19-20 weeks old, and they haven't laid any eggs yet. Does this mean that they will soon? Or are they just playing around? I haven't caught them doing this before, but I just got back from vacation so it may have started a week or two ago.

Thanks in advance!

Once the pullet submits, it is a good sign that eggs are coming soon :) My blue andalusian pullet started squatting about a week ago and layed her first egg yesterday :)

Thanks! This makes me feel a lot better about my flock! Congratulations on your pullet's first egg! I am sure you are both happy!
