Hi everyone,

I had a strange experience last night with my chickens where they wouldn’t go into their coop well into the night. They were staying in a corner as far from the coop as possible. I checked the coop and didn’t see anything in there and I put a light in there but they still wouldn’t budge. I ended up just picking them up and putting them in the coop myself.

I went to open up the coop this morning and noticed little cat paws on the roof of the coop so I think that may have been what scared them. They went back to the same corner as last night though and will move around every once in a while to get water and food but for the most part they are staying in the one spot.

Any tips for what I can do to help them feel safe or how I should proceed?

I guess I should also note that we have seen the cats on the fence by the chicken run and coop before and 2 of my 3 chickens are bigger than them and the run is completely covered so the cats getting in isn’t a concern. I just want to figure out how to help the chickens feel safe again.

Aw poor babies! Maybe put a bunch of treats in the coop. You could put lights in the run and cover it with a tarp so they can't see the cats. The cats cannot get into it, right?

As long as the cats can't get to them I wouldn't worry too much. I have seen cats around here too. I have no idea where they come from but I also have game cameras up around my property and see cats quite regularly around the coops but I also have electric wires up and nothing messes with the hot wires. I would try treats also. Good luck...
