(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We ordered hatching eggs in early 2016 and hatched 9 of 18 eggs! Since then we’ve also bought chicks from Tractor Supply Co., Rural King, Meyer Hatchery, and a local breeder.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have two of the original four girls we hatched 4.5 years ago, plus other hens ages 1-4 years old and chicks (8 weeks old). We have 7 hens & 13 chicks right now.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Salmon Faverolle, Black sex link, Speckled Sussex, Barred Rock, White Leghorn, Easter Egger, Exchequer Leghorn, Splash Maran, Steele Egger, Jersey Giant, bantam Buff Brahma, bantam Mottled Cochin, lavender frizzled silkie, blue Silkie, black Silkie, showgirl Silkie, white crested black polish, and Ayam Cemani.
4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Having friendly birds with lots of personality. We like having a mixed flock. The neighbors, as well as our family, enjoy them and their colorful eggs.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Building chicken coops
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We also have three cats and two rabbits. We have a small garden.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Google lead me here years ago. I joined this year for help with this new batch of chicks. (They had coccidiosis.)
