Is it possible chicken mamas will smother and suffocate babies? Today is day 21-23 Depending on when the eggs were laid in the nest. There are 7 chicken moms sharing 2 nesting boxes. One box has 4 chickens and I swear I heard at least 1 chick yesterday but everyone was still laying on the box. (And squawking like mad at each other for moving around)

I have not candles these eggs, the chickens are straight savages and attack me so I just let it be. Is it possible with so many moms that they are suffocating babies if they hatch earlier than others?

I’m not too worried about checking the eggs, if they hatch, they hatch. If they don’t, they don’t. More concerned with the wellbeing of the possible babies.

When an egg is internally pipped, you can hear them pipping in the shell.

I hope the hatch goes well!

Very interesting. Thanks, figured the girls were so persistent in being broody I’d let them hatch their own this year.
