I have 2 hens that have been happily going around the backyard eating everything and producing an egg a day for the last 6 months. But for the last 2 days they just stay in the coop sitting. Yesterday I pulled them out and they both ate drank, then went back into the coop and sat. Any ideas what is going on.

Thanks in advance of your advice!

Is it hot where you are? Some of my hens sit in the coop when it is really hot out. Are the sitting in the nesting boxes? They might be broody if they are in the boxes.

Yes, we are near Houston so the days get into the 90's. But that has not been unusual. They even stay in the coop right after sunrise. Usually they are out at the crack of dawn. I am getting worried because they have also not laid any eggs in about 5 days. However, if I force them out, they eat some and drink some, But then they go back to the coop.
