Okay, I forgot to introduce myself and my varied flock. Above, my 4 Harlequin ducks enjoy a tiny swimming pool in 5 degree weather in 2021. I have raised chickens since the early 90's, started with Dark Cornish, two hens hid nests and presented me with their lovely chicks 21 days later and I was hooked on the broody hen thing. In 2014z I raised my first small flock of heritage turkeys - Narragansett, Bourbon Red and Heritage Bronze. Lucked out again in the super broody mom department when one of the bronze hens disappeared and set a nest in the woody ravine below our house. Luckily I found her before the foxes, coyotes and fisher cats did, and moved her to a large dog crate with her 12 eggs. She hatched out 11 poults! She was a great mom and always hatched out 10-12 poults for 8 years. (She passed to turkey heaven in 2021, sigh.)
Got my first duckies in 2021 - the four Harleys from the big Mac (Murray MacMurray). It was love at first peep, and they are very friendly and talkative and impervious to harsh winter weather, as you can see. But I am having trouble getting them to hatch out their eggs. Last year the 3 insisted on setting the nest together and had a huge clutch and only hatched out 1 female. Lots of lovely fully formed baby ducks in the eggs. So sad and frustrating. I will post more later. Gotta go to work.
