Posting for a friend who doesn't have a computer.
Some of her young birds at approx 8-10 weeks are vigorous and healthy one day, the next day the odd one is hunched up and doesn't eat, within 48 hours it is dead. Light as a feather when you pick them up.
None of her adult birds have died this way. These young birds are hatched by a incubator from her own stock, Wyandottes, Speckled Sussex, Americanas.
All are fed 20% Starter then switch to 16% Grower sometimes vitamins in the water, sometimes not. doesn't seem to make a difference.
They have been de-wormed, kept very clean, no signs of blood in the feces.
No respiratory symptoms, coughing, paralysis, diarrhea etc...
They look perfectly fine one day, eating, running around acting like a chicken then the next day they are hunched up, will not eat or drink then the following day they die.
When she picks them up they weigh nothing.
She has lost approx 12 junvenile birds this year with those symptoms.
Anybody have any idea what it could be?
