Hi everyone! I have a petite flock of 5- almost 3 month year old hens. My flock consists of 4 EEs and one white Silkie. All of my chickens were raised by me from Day 1! Just a couple weeks ago, they were on my lap the second I entered the run. Now, they couldn't care less! They will peck my feet, clothes and look at me, but it's no where near the amount of compassion I received just a bit earlier. They are showered in treats, and I visit them every day. Is this just a phase? Will this be permanent? Help please! I want my chickens to like me. Does this mean they don't? Thanks so much everyone! Oh and also, if you have any suggestions on how to make them love me more, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks again! :barnie:bow:D

Just as chicks grow up and wean themselves from their mother, they are weaning from you, their foster mom.

3 of mine did this. 2 Rhode Island Reds and 1 (*can't remember what her breed is atm omg) After about I want to say less than 2 months they went back to being friendly... I dont know why they did this but they got over it. So I dont think its going to be long term. I'm sure its not that they dont like you!.

Thank you for the reassurance!

Phew. Thanks! I suspected this but wanted some more opinions. About what age is considered the end of this teenager stage?
Their personalities will shift again when they get to the point of lay. Mine became even more friendly than they were before their adolescent phase. They wanted nothing to do with me as teenagers. I think it has to do with avoiding a rooster's advances. They look more adult but they're not sexually mature so it makes sense for them to become skittish and avoid hypothetical roos and you.

That makes sense. Thanks for explaining!
