Answer: Probably most of the folks on this site! I'm new to this...just went out one day, walked into a farm store, came home with six fuzzy little chickies, a brooding pen, and a chicken house, and began this new journey! Like some of you, mine started in my empty bedroom, graduated to the chicken house on the covered patio, then into the same chicken house and run moved out onto the backyard lawn. I surely enjoyed having coffee outside on the patio when they were still there! So entertaining to watch them! I'm retired now...well, sort of......and used to raise and show paints and quarter horses for decades. Chickens are not quite the same, but very fun! My neighbors who have chickens think mine are spoiled and live a life of luxury. Really?? I think I just try to take very good care of them. They are now 6 months old and Thelma just laid her first eggs! Of course, it would be Thelma...she's first at everything! Anyway...thanks for all the wonderful information!

X2 on putting your location in your avatar!! And welcome to the "sick" world of spoiled chickens! We just added 3 new chicks to our 1.5 yr old girls mainly as a result of losing our one easter egger to a predator a few months ago. Of course Hedwig was our favorite hen and her loss hurt. BUT, on the other hand, it is so much fun to watch new chicks grow and play and eventually be spoiled to the degree they deserve!!! We have chosen to cut down on our treats as we are worried we are hurting their health by giving them so many treats. We don't want to kill them with love.

Welcome and I am sure everyone appreciates the thank you. Happy Retirement. I do miss my coffee in the morning with my chickens when they were babies in my husbands office first floor. My dog and I loved to quietly watch them. Now see pic. We have graduated to outdoor seating area in front of chic house. Keep spoiling them they are worth it.
