My husband built me a chicken tractor suitable for 10 hens. The coop part is on the top and is about a 4x5' section. The run is under it and in front of it and is about 4x8'. They have a ladder that goes up into their coop - 2' off the ground. Since i've moved them out to the tractor though (they're 8 weeks old), i've never seen them go back up the ladder to stay. I've found a couple on the ladder but they don't really seem to sleep up in the coop. I'm not sure if it's because the days are just longer now and they're out later than i go to bed and up earlier than me or if it's because they can't figure out the ladder. The first couple nights i army crawled in there and tried to help them up the ladder to show them what to do but after 2 nights that was a lot of effort! Do you think they would figure out the ladder if they really wanted to go up there? right now the food and water is down in the run and the nights aren't that cold so maybe they just see no need right now to go up there. Although the roosts are up in the coop. i'm definitely baffled!

It took my chickens a few weeks to work out how to go up the ladder. We put the food up into the coop and they all went up that same night. Maybe you can try this?
