Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.

I have around 150 chickens , all are young , they run free, penned up at night,not crowed , a perfect chicken paradise. Every once in a while one lays down and dies. They seem find one day next they die. Does anyone have an idea what is happening . Our Vet knows nothing about birds of any kind .I would appreciates any help. Willard
