Just wanted to say hi, great forum!

I've been lurking for a while, but decided to join. We're the proud new owners of a new little flock of pullets, 3 red sussex - 6 weeks, and 2 partridge rock girls - 9 weeks.

Funny thing happened, we turned our spare bathtub into a brooder. While the chicks were cosy in there, one night I left my potted African Violet in the sink to soak up water through the roots. This thing has not bloomed since I bought it years ago. I'm guessing it was the heat in the room.... within a day or two I had beautiful purple blooms coming up. Thanks chickens!!! haha who would have thought, but african violets like brooders.

from South Carolina!

For African violets, let them wilt a bit and then water them heavily, it will force the bloom. It works for lots of indoor flowering plants.

But you just might have some brooder mojo going!

Edited for awful typing.

I did kind of did something similar. My chicks were brooding in my office downstairs and it was so toasty in there I was able to get all of my vegie seeds started in there in record time! Nothing like a nice warm 80* room to get the seeds growing.
