We are building a hut for the turkeys and husbands wants something on the floor. These turkeys are being raise for Thanksgiving market. They have roost to get up on.
We have tons of chicken wire but we thinkinging it not strong enough.
Any ideas or how it works for you. These turkeys are four to five months old.

Chickenwire isn't really even strong enough for *chickens* to stand on, let alone turkeys.

Also for whatever it's worth the Storey's Guide to Raising Turkeys book explicitly says never raise commercial-type turkeys on wire because their feet can't take it - he recommends a slatted wooden floor if not putting them directly on the ground. (My own turkey experience is limited to, I have 3 9-wk-old BBBs at the moment, but as the author of that book is rather commercial-oriented and does tend to prefer things like raising birds on wire when possible, I'd be inclined to take his advice seriously on this issue)

Good luck,

Pat

Thanks I can do that because I can get pellets and but in there.
Hubby wanted to put a soild wood floor and I reminded him turkey dropping would have to be scrapped out daily but the pellets might work.
