I have never tried to raise turkeys before but I am thinking about it this year. Is it a good idea to raise chicks and turkey poults together?

I do not recommend brooding turkey poults and chicken chicks together due to the potential problems later on from imprinting. When the turkeys grow up they will be bigger and not be able to understand that the chickens aren't turkeys. The size difference and the behavior difference can cause problems for the chickens.

Another important thing to remember is that turkeys need a much bigger area than the chickens.

Turkey poults also require a high protein turkey or game bird starter for proper development.

My neighbor raised them together and lost two fine chickens to smothering at night. I guess the poults just couldn't register that they were on top of the chickens.

If you don't want to contribute to your flocks demise for a multitude of reasons, Do not mix. There are numerous threads on the topic here and off the bat....... I just got Turkeys and that's of coarse after I built a separate pen away from my Chickens. Best regards for success.
