My nieces slept over, we had a big campout in the livingroom. We were all up early to wait for the call from the post office. As soon as the phone rang, all four kids ran out to the van.

Only 4 out of the 36 chicks survived the trip. I'm just heartbroken. There were 5 others that were still breathing, but we lost them already this morning.

I'm guessing it was the heat the last 2 days? I don't know..I'm not really looking for advice, just support. Needless to say, our fun morning did not turn out so fun. :(

How horrible! I'm so sorry.

I don't ever want to do mail order chickens again. Mine were all fine, except one dead. But it was so stressful trying to find out WHERE the shipment went, and then driving over 120 miles round trip to get them because they went to the distribution center. A friend of mine got an order of chicks in the summer and they were all dead and half rotten when she opened up the box. In the future I intend to find chickens locally from breeders.

Sorry you had this experience, but it's extremely common.

Im very sorry to hear your story. Even though this is a common problem, it doesnt make it any easier. The 4 that survived will be very greatful for all the love and attenion they get now.
Lots of love and support from the girls and I

Dace316 Where are you located?
I ordered mine (they were OK) but I too never want to mail order chicks again-- it was nerve racking for me, and just too many things can go wrong-- fairly risky for these little babies,
am so sorry for your loss---

If you look over a few months-- try Craigslist-- and look in several areas/cities ( and be willing to drive 50 miles or so ) and you can find new chicks or even started pullets, tons of free Roos... that way-- I ordered cause I was not finding the breed I wanted, then sure enough I saw 4 listings (Jersey Giants) over the next month....
Give that a try....

How sad for the kids... and you. When I ordered my babies in March, that was my biggest fear. I had the lady at th epos toffice peek in the box to see if they were alive befor eI even went to get them. she laughed and said she had already been playing with them :) I hope your hatchery replaces them in a hurry.
