I now believe that five out of seven chicks ate fiber glass.
I first thought it was cocci and was treating them all.
Yesterday I saw some chicks eating fiber glass in the bathroom where i let then play.
My husband is remodeling the bathroom and fiber glass was sticking out in the closet.
I caught them in the act.
I'm so MADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.
I'm so saddddd.
The leghorn has lost some weight.
The other three have great poops and then a bright red poop.
They are active, eating, sleeping, pooping.
I read some where in one of these post to feed them oatmeal and yogart to help stop the bleeding and heal the insides.
Any advice on treating chicks that ate something toxic or harsh to their systems?
Please send good thought my way.

Wow, that's scary.
All I can suggest is to drench them with some olive or mineral oil and see if it can be passed that way.
When we got our newer dog, she knocked over the glass dog treat jar. When we came home there was itdy bidy pieces of glass every where, but no dog bones. I was afraid the 'hoover dog' got some glass in his quest for food. I googled the problem, and the answer was to soak cotten balls in milk and to feed them to your dog. Apparently the cotton fibers snag the glass and it passes with the stool.

I do not know if your chicks would eat cotton, or if it is even chicken friendly. You are in a bad place here. I am so sorry that this happened. I hope it works out for them.
Good luck!

Thanks for the post.
The olive oil is a great idea.
I just checked on them and and there is no bloody poops.
They are going crazy for the oatmeal.
My fingers are crossed.

My guess would be to treat it like botulism and do the water flush (look for it on here, you can make it at home) that is suggested.

I would also maybe give them some penicillin perhaps? And def. some polyvisol vitamins.

I used to work for a vet and when dogs would get into chicken bones or swallow a foreign body he would tell them to feed only bran flakes to help cushion the object and flush it out. I am not sure if that would work or be safe for a chicken, though.

Thanks for all the posts.
The chicks are still alive some however are still pooping blood.
I fed them oat meal with molasses, yogart, goat milk , chicken crumble, sulmet water and some collidal silver.
I figure that the first 24hrs are critical so YAH!!
They all played, ate, pooped ,drank and slept.
Their life force is still strong.
Thanks again for reaching out to a scared chicken mother.
