My First Egg Shipment To Hawaii (outer island) Was A Disaster -- 18 Out Of 36 Were Cracked. Out Of Those 18 Left -- I Only Have One (1) Rhode Island Red Chick (unknown sex) -- Now Two (2) Days Old -- Amazing, Darling Personality. Since I Only Have One (1) Chick Now, I Am Using Some Small Mirrors (4" x 4") Approximately -- And It Appears To Really Work -- It Allows The Chick To Interact With The Mirror -- And It Really Helps With A Sole / Lonely Chick. The Way It Interacts With The Mirror, Makes Me Think I Might Have A Rooster -- Not Sure -- I Did Have A 6 Week Old Rooster, Also Solitary (1) One -- The Mirror Works For A Small Time, With Chicks -- However I Do Not Recommend Mirrors After A Certain Age For Roosters. I Found That The Young Rooster Was Spending All His Time In The Coop With The Mirror -- And Then I Placed A Mirror In The Chicken Run -- And It Appears That The Rooster Never Fully Realized What A Mirror Is -- And I Found That The Rooster Was A Bit More Aggressive Than What Appears Normal (Novice Here). I Now Have Twenty Seven (27) Rhode Island Red Eggs In The Incubator (All Eggs Un-Damaged In Shipment) -- And Another Shipment Of Live (1) One Day Old Chicks Arriving In The First Week Of September -- I Did Notice The Right Eye Was Closed -- Not From An Injury, But Appears To Be Closed -- I Picked Up The Chick And With Fingers I Gently Pulled The Top + Bottom Of The Eyelid, And Now It Sees Perfectly. So Far, I Am Absolutely Pleased With The Personality And Vitality Of Rhode Island Reds. Thanks To Everyone !
