ok so I am having chick addiction issues
-we hatched out our out chicks (6 of them) on feb 14th, and they will be going to the coop soon.
-we sent an order to cackle last week and are still waiting on a reply for delivery date of 25 day old chicks
-as most of you know, TSC is having chick days....and I must stop in there. well the first time we went in, it seemed like the only kinds they had (standard size) were reds and cornish rocks, even the pullets bin seemed like it looked just like the reds bin..anyways. and the bantam bin was the most diverse of them all. some had feathered legs and lots of different colors. well we went in yesterday because we needed feed, and as I was looking in the bantam bin I noticed some have puff balls on the top of their little heads....could these be polish chicks???????? I don't think they are silkies because they didn't have black faces and beeks. I am so tempted to buy 6 of them to see what they turn out to be.

but DH doesn't want to..."where would they go? our chickens would beat them up because they are smaller" but my reply, "if they are small enough they could stay in the house longer" said with a sneaky grin lol. I just wonder what they are. maybe if I buy some, I'll get some picture of them and y'all can help me out on the breed(s). we plan on expanding the run anyways, why not make a small encloser for these little guys?? lol

it would help greatly if anyone had pictures of bantam chicks with the little puff balls on the top of their heads. maybe that could give me an idea of what they might be.

thanks in advance

I don't know how we would wind up if we had enough land to have all the chicks we wanted. Though I have to say that there are a couple of things I'd meant to do these last few weeks that haven't happened. I was supposed to start renovating a kitchen in my basement, and I'm always sort of thinking about books I wish I would be writing. I actually did do a lot of writing in the fall, despite work we had to do to set up our layer coop. So I can't blame the chicks for that, I guess.

Well, all this thinking about productivity reminds me I need to look for a new job on craigslist.

I saw the polish chicks at TSC. They had White Crested Black Polish at our local one. They also had Sultan Chicks. They have a bump on their head, but have 5 toes. Take pictures and I'm sure people will help you out.

Yep, I have one of each in my brooder right now, although I didn't realize what kind they were until I got them home.

I think I am going to talk dh in going today, if anything.....to take pictures of them to get an idea of what they are. I am still thinking of getting 6 of them

.....they are too cute!

well we stopped by tsc and they were all out of the puffy headed bantams, which the girl working at the chicks said they are polish bantams! and she did say that they will be getting another shipment of bantams on thursday and could call me if they get more, and hold 6 for me! I am so addicted! but they are too cute! and I mean, I already have chick feed and a place to put them...why not?! will post pics if/when I get the little fuzzies!

Im still waiting on my TSC to get any bantams in.

The manager called me and told me she just didnt know when they would come in but that she would call me and let me have 1st pick since I know what Im looking for. Ive seen ppl here post pics of what appears to be silkies (maybe they are sultans) out of the bantam bin. I doubt I could be so lucky for them to get any.

I would get a cochin, silkie, possibly a polish. I have 3 standard polish approx 5-6 wks old. They are very standoffish and loud when you pick them up compared to the other breeds I have. And I would FOR SURE get some sultans if ours had them!!!
