So I've got some chicks coming in the mail tomorrow

But I don't really know what to do when they get here? Like, I know how to take care of chicks, but what do I do with shipped chicks? Are they going to be stressed out? And should I give them any kind of special water or food? Thanks!
Also, how long should I quarantine them from the rest of my flock?

If they are coming from a hatchery you do not need to quarantine.

You can put a little sugar in their water to encourage them to drink it, but I never had to do that.

Number 1 is do not open the box with little kids there many time there are some dead chicks that I have been trampled after they died and it is not pretty!
2. check each chick for pastie butt.
3. dip their beaks in the water and then the food.
4. enjoy!!! they grow so fast and will never be this cute again
5. post pictures of them, we all love to see chick pics!

Most people put them with the flock at 8 weeks, I wait until 12 weeks because I want them to be a little closer to hen size so that they can deal with the pecking order better.

I added a bit of ACV (with the mother) to their water from the start and had little problem with pasty butt. I don't know that it helped, but many people swear by it.

I opened my box on the floor of the brooder so if anybody jumped out they were already where they were supposed to be.

Pictures are required

Haha okay, they're not coming from a hatchery though, I bought them off BYC. I'm so excited!! I'll make sure to post LOTS of pics

If my chicks are stressed should I give them electrolytes? And someone told me I shouldn't feed them for a few hours after I get them. Any consensus?
