Hi - 2 months ago I incubated chicks & raised them in the house til they were big enough to go outside & they are all fine. Now, 2 hens in 2 different coops have eggs that are beginning to hatch. The 1st chick to hatch looked fine then I found it dead yesterday - 3 days old. Another has since hatched. In the other coop, 2 chicks were born & now the 2nd one has passed - 2 days old. I don't know what's going on!?!. Should I take the eggs & chicks away from the hens & bring them inside? I could put the eggs in the incubator & keep the babies warm with a light like I did with the incubated chicks. I don't know what to do. They are out of the weather. I live in FL & it's been hot but not nearly as hot as it was before they hatched. Any ideas? I can't take much more of these cuties dying. Thanks.

Could they be getting too hot? That's the first thing i thought of. Good Luck and i hope you figure it out.

we have been taking our chicks away from the hens right away this year, we have lost a few to hens stepping on them, and they smother them sometimes, not intentionally.
they go right inside. we have hatched about 20 guineas and a few chickens the past few weeks.

Thanks very much for the advice. I will bring the babies inside. It has been hot. I was wondering if they were smothered because the 1st one to die was under the mom a bit.
