Chicks for kids Easter gifts

Welcome. I'm never for giving pets for a holiday. However as long as you realise your kids probably won't care for them the way you hope and you are willing to do the work then go for it.
If not before you get them, then shortly after, start to build their adult home. The time flies and you dont have as much time as you think before they need their permanent home. I waited just a bit too long and had to rush to get it done.
Good luck and enjoy.

Hi! Welcome! :frow

Well, I'm happy to hear you want to DIY, so build bigger and stronger than you think you need. You can find several articles in the links Pork Pie gave you.

Hopefully you are not going to DIY their feed. It's best to just buy a formulated feed at the farms store where you get your chicks.

Like N F C said, read, read, read. You'll be so glad you did. :D

Ok, I cannot tell people this often enough, but DON’T GET CHICKS FOR EASTER!!! Especially dyed ones. You have to be prepared to take care of them as they grow, and have a place for them to live once they’re big. Some people just get them to have them for the day, and then they die of dehydration or from eating Easter grass. If you are serious about getting chickens, you should get half grown (or pullet) Buff Orpingtons. These fluffy yellow birds are among the friendliest breeds, abs they last big brown eggs. They're the easiest for beginners. Have fun! Oh, and make sure you’ve got a brooder set up BEFORE you get them.
