Here is what my son (who has the hatching chicks) emailed me and asked that I ask the experts on this forum.......
We have a male buff orp rooster, five americauna hens, 2 buff orp broody hens. We have chicks hatching, but almost all have black markings. Would these be little males taking the genes of their mothers? And if we have any that look pure buff orp, we dont know till older?
We had a cold snap, bad weather, and ant infestation and have had to take the chicks inside with us instead of leaving with the broody buff orp sisters (who climbed into one nesting box). Is it safe to reintroduce the chicks back to mama soon or is that relationship over? When can we introduce the chicks to their family members?
Thanks
