chicks have closed eyes

a few of my chicks that hatched 4 days age eyes were not open.
They got week and died. Is there some thing you can do for these or are they just meant to die? Maybe they had a hard hatch. I know one at least was pipped at the wrong end, so I wasn't surprised when he went down hill.

Once I had one that had good eyes but was always sleeping. It dies after 3 days but was part of a healthy clutch so I would not say it was a vitamin deficiency.
How many chicks had closed eyes and sure they had closed eyes or where they sleeping?

Nichrome is probably on to something here. If they never did open their eyes after hatching, then it may be something genetic, the parents didn't get enough nutrients while laying, or something was amiss during incubation.
