Hi all. Just got my SS chicks yesterday and they don't seem to be eating or drinking a lot. Should they be? I did have to clean off 3 for pasty butt this morning. Could that be it?

How long should this go on? I thought they would have feed flying everywhere and water spilled everywhere.........

When did they hatch? They could still be using there yolk sac for nutrition, I think they can use that for about 2-3 days. After that time, they need food & water. Whats the temp in your brooder?

They hatched on Tues, June 1, shipped that afternoon I got them Thursday morning.
Temp in brooder is 90.

I'd try to get the brooder to 95. They tend to do alot of sleeping the first few days. You are not gonna go through cups of feed at this point. Just watch them.

You may need to show them what to do, as a hen would. Use your finger to "peck" at the food and water. Once one of the chicks gets the idea, the rest will follow.
