So we're currently trying to build a new coop out of our old swing set but it may take a while due to the rain season being upon us. The current flock coop is can only fit a few of our chickens right now and the chick coop holds the 3 chicks and there's plenty of room.

What we have:
7 Standard hens.
4 Bantams. (Includes cockerel)
3 Cornish pullets. (Meat birds)
3 chicks. (4 almost 5 wk old)

If I put 2 of the 4 bantams inside with the chicks at night and let them out when they wake up at 6am, will that be fine? It's just for room. I know I can't put our cockerel bantam in there but I was thinking of putting 2 of the bantam hens inside.
The rest love to pile onto each other at night so I know they'll have room.

Depends on the bantams. Some will chase and attack strange chicks. You should probably do some introductions through a fence for a week or so first.

The chicks have been in the chick coop, which is right next to the flock coop, for 2 weeks. They've seen each other for a while. Tiny and Rusty, our Cochin bantam pullets, were the 2 I was thinking of putting inside since Tiny has already slept in the chick coop with the chicks once last week.

If they are familiar I would put them together and see how it goes. The bantams aren't gonna like switching coops probably and will pace the fence. You may have to put them inside for a while.

There's no fence except the one that separates them from us. They all are in a 'free range' yard. The chick coop, however, never stays open unless I'm changing water or feeding them.

How big, in feet by feet, is the 'chick coop?
Do you plan on eating the meat birds?
