I can hardly wait! My 25 chicks and 2 turkeys are shipping from Belt hatchery on Wednesday! I chose belt because they are only about 3-4 hours away from us. The problem is, we are having some freak weather this and next week.It might snow on Thursday and Wednesday we are supposed to have heavy showers.

Now, being the nervous chickie mommy I am, I am worried my fuzz butts are going to freeze their little tooshies off. I would hate to open a box of quiet, still little bodies. That would be so sad! I am wondering, however, if they could possibly make it here the same day they ship, since we aren't very far away from the hatchery. Ugh, there are so many things that can happen. I guess all I can do is cross my fingers and wait!

If they are that close to you, you should get them the next day.
Congrats on your new babies and we'll be waiting for pics.
Just make sure you have them a nice warm place waiting when you get home from the post office.

I am setting up their brooder in their new coop this weekend. I will be sure to get them warmed up immediately. I am just so excited!

What breeds are you getting? Baby chicks are so much fun, aren't they?

Let's see. Here are the breeds:

1 Barred Rock roo
4 Barred Rock hens
3 Rhode Island Red hens
2 Black Star hens
2 Red Star hens
Black Australop hens
1 Buff Orpington hen
5 Easter Egger hens
4 Brown Leghorn hens
and 2 Bronze turkey (straightrun)

I am going to add them to my flock of 8 hens, 2 roosters, 14 ducks, and 2 geese to make one gigantic flock for pets and eggs. I am going to sell the duck and chicken eggs to neighbors and friends to hopefully keep up with feed costs. Should be fun!

Those are really great choices. I have had all of those breeds except the Stars.
Everyone loves free eggs, don't they?
What kind of ducks do you have? Sorry for the questions, it's your excitement about your new chicks and I'm asking you questions about ducks!

I have several different breeds of ducks too, most of them I got from Metzer Farms last year.

I have 1 black runner hen, 2 fawn and white runner hens, 1 white crested hen, 2 mallard hens, 2 black Swedish hens, 1 Blue Swedish hen, 1 mix breed hen, 1 Welsh Harlequin Drake, 1 mallard Drake, 1 Rouen Drake, and mix breed drake. I probably have too many boys, but I don't have the heart to get rid of them. Come Spring, I might separate out 2 or 3 of them if they become a problem.

Sounds like you'll have a fun group at your house.
I always keep the extra drakes, too. They're so sweet-I can't get rid of them, either.
You're going to have more eggs than you know what to do with between the chickens and ducks!
