I just wanted to share.. Over the last year or so, I've been saying to myself "Amanda, you are GOING to FINALLY get your chickens. This is the year". I had the room, and I just felt the timing was right. (I wish I didn't find out how much sq. footage per chicken in the coop- I way over estimated and found I could have more, and it enabled this problem I now have.) I had never had chickens before. I've wanted them for as long as I can remember. I did a LOT of research, especially on here, googled any questions I had. Everything. Then I started to look up breeds, and I wanted them for pets and eggs. I got overwhelmed so I was like "lets just get assorted pullets, and let the hatchery decide!" I ordered 3, from MPC. I just wanted a few. They called and said I needed to add at least 2 more. So, 5 total. After being a ball of nerves until they got here, they came- all is well, and my girls are all in the outside coop now. While they were growing up, I had decided 5 wasn't enough, and I wasn't going to get the breeds I had wanted at TSC or a feed store- so I placed an order to arrive in June for 5 pullets. In the meantime, I went to a TSC in CT.. and they had bantams! They were so cute, and tiny, and they had one lonely Silkie left.. They had a minimum of 6 chicks, so, naturally- I bought 10. So that brings me to 15. I figured it would be mostly roos, and I can't have roo's here, so I wouldn't be able to keep them all. All is fine with my 15, one was sickly- but I nursed the lil bugger through it- and it appears to be doing well for a week or more now. In the meantime, my fiance decides he wants Seramas. While going to a feed store I saw the perfect coop for them at- they have more banties! So, I picked up 6 more. They had blue ones, and partridge ones. I needed them, right? Now I'm at 21. My fiance got his Serama's! They're amazingly awesome- but that brings us up to a grand total of 26, with 5 more on the way! How did I get to 10x over my original amount?? Is this that crazy chicken math they talk about??? I love the chicks, but as they get more and more feathered they get better and better! Warning: Chicks are super addictive! You can't have "just 3"!

P.S.
I have eggs in an incubator too!

I totally agree! I started with 5 chickens about a year ago and a now at 85!!! Problem is hubby actually counted them yesterday and said we need to thin out some. How do you choose? I love them all. I have Cochins, Jersey Giants and a few Key West Chickens. They range in age from1 year to 1 week. They are all sooo cute.

One of our Key West had babies last week and another had 3 2 weeks ago, and yet another is sitting on eggs! More little ones on the way !!!

HaHA....NO KIDDING!! I had one RIR Roo who I adored and he met an untimely death. I was devistated so had to fill the hole with another and decided I wanted to raise a chick. NATURALLY you can't get just 1 chick so I got 2. 2 weeks later I find the cutest reddest RIR day old chick and HAD to have him. Well, now they are about 3-4 weeks old and lookin good but I was at the feed store the other day and saw the prettiest Amaracana (Spelling?) Did a little research and decided I could probably use another chick but of course you MUST get them in pairs at the very least! I think I'm headed down a VERY slippery slope!!
Oh....they had ducklings at the pet store too!!

i got 2 for my birthday one died so we got another and then 2 bantams then the fox ate the big ones so we got 4 one died then we had 2 chicks then 3 chicks then 2 bantams one died 3 bantams another 3 chicks and now over 3 years we now have 14 when we started with only 2 chickens that were a little present and i believe we will end up with hundreds soon x lol not as many as 85 but still ...

You crazy chicken people. [shakes head disapprovingly and tries to ignore the fact that I have 30 chickens, 12 chicks, 20 more in the bator, 11 chicks coming from the hatchery, and going to the feed store to get 10 more.]

I want more but can only have 15 here, so I am looking for a farm where I can have as many as I want and I want 5 of each kind lol, I think I need a 12 step program chickens are great but they are addictive. I have a hen acting broody thought about ordering some eggs just to see what would happen Dh just shakes his head at me anymore. says he needs to win the lottery so he can buy a farm for his crazy chicken lady of a wife lol.

hmmmm ... your calculator must be broken ... 3 DOES equal 31 ... today. Tomorrow it will equal 35, then next week it will equal 42. You just have to get the equation right:

Obsesssion x enablers + availability = chickens.

kinda like e=mc2
