I just wanted to share.. Over the last year or so, I've been saying to myself "Amanda, you are GOING to FINALLY get your chickens. This is the year". I had the room, and I just felt the timing was right. (I wish I didn't find out how much sq. footage per chicken in the coop- I way over estimated and found I could have more, and it enabled this problem I now have.) I had never had chickens before. I've wanted them for as long as I can remember. I did a LOT of research, especially on here, googled any questions I had. Everything. Then I started to look up breeds, and I wanted them for pets and eggs. I got overwhelmed so I was like "lets just get assorted pullets, and let the hatchery decide!" I ordered 3, from MPC. I just wanted a few. They called and said I needed to add at least 2 more. So, 5 total. After being a ball of nerves until they got here, they came- all is well, and my girls are all in the outside coop now. While they were growing up, I had decided 5 wasn't enough, and I wasn't going to get the breeds I had wanted at TSC or a feed store- so I placed an order to arrive in June for 5 pullets. In the meantime, I went to a TSC in CT.. and they had bantams! They were so cute, and tiny, and they had one lonely Silkie left.. They had a minimum of 6 chicks, so, naturally- I bought 10. So that brings me to 15. I figured it would be mostly roos, and I can't have roo's here, so I wouldn't be able to keep them all. All is fine with my 15, one was sickly- but I nursed the lil bugger through it- and it appears to be doing well for a week or more now. In the meantime, my fiance decides he wants Seramas. While going to a feed store I saw the perfect coop for them at- they have more banties! So, I picked up 6 more. They had blue ones, and partridge ones. I needed them, right? Now I'm at 21. My fiance got his Serama's! They're amazingly awesome- but that brings us up to a grand total of 26, with 5 more on the way! How did I get to 10x over my original amount?? Is this that crazy chicken math they talk about??? I love the chicks, but as they get more and more feathered they get better and better! Warning: Chicks are super addictive! You can't have "just 3"!
P.S.
I have eggs in an incubator too!
