chicks with pastey butt..

hello, i have 2 3 day old chicks which seem to have a build up of mess on their bottoms that i think is pastey butt..

they're with thier mum and i've heard its rare for they to develop this when with thier mum... is this true?

Anyway, i wiped off as much as i could on the chick but its not completely clean.. i diddent want to upset her too much....

any suggestions? is it the diet? or stress or what??

any help would be appreciated, it seems this is quite a common problem

Did you give them sugar water at first. You need to take them off sugar water. Wet a paper towel and let it soak on their backside to gently remove. Do not pull off the skin or tail feathers. It may take several times. Be sure to be giving medicated chick starter. Hope this helps..Have a blessed day.
