This is my Hen's second batch of chicks, there are 7 and we know all are from the same Roo, but the eggs were the 1st 8 after she started being broody. Mom is a red hen with a small comb, I was told she was "mixed" by a breeder trying to get something new. She is a great mom. The eggs could be from her sister and her daughters. Dad looks like a Buckeye but with a full comb and he has dark legs. They are 4 weeks old
5 of the 7 are black with varying amounts of white on their fronts and bellies. 2 of these black ones have stripes of missing feathers down both sides of their necks. One seems to have a longish neck with sparse feathers, the other I just saw the stripe today because it is hidden by fairly thick feathers. The stripe starts below the head and stops at the shoulder. They seem to be healthy.
The chicks and Mama sleep in their own "house" and are completely free range during the day. They keep their distance from the grown chickens. They are playing "chicken" but I haven't seen any of them do anything that would cause feathers to fly.
I know pictures would be helpful . I'll try to get some tonight.
Any thoughts?
