I have had my chickens for 2 weeks. We open the coop door every morning and they go out.I can see the run from my kitchen window. I spend a lot of time in my kitchen and I realized the chicks spend more time in the coop than outside. the run is plenty big for 8 chickens, however not a lot of grass and bugs.Should I shut the coop door so they are outside during the day? Should I just stop being a "mother hen" and let them be?

Just let them be is my vote! If there is something out there that is intimidating they will be nervous but will eventually get more comfortable. They need a safe place for their emotional well-being. If their run isn't covered they may see a hawk in a tree watching them.

my girls spend a lot of time inside their coop also.but I noticed that when I go out to run.they come out I always go out several times during the day just to check on them.i have had my girls since 1st week-end in march.they will go in and out all day long. Its all good.
