Hello everyone! I have 4 chickens we have called "poof heads". I have been told they were Chinese Crested Chickens but recently I was told they were Polish Crested Chickens. Now I'm confused and can not find a definite answer about what they are. Can anyone help me?

They are Polish. There is no such thing as a Chinese crested chicken.
That's not what research says it says any chicken with plumage in their head like these is considered "Crested" and the chicken Chinese crested and the polish crested differ in color, temperament and plumage. The research said that the person who first classified all crested chickens called them "Polish" because the Feathers on the head looked like polish headdresses.. So which is true?

The pictured bird looks like a white crested black polish.

When I did a quick search on crested chickens I couldn't find anything on "Chinese crested" chickens and I hadn't heard of them as a breed before. In fact, my brief search on "crested chicken breeds" didn't come up with any Chinese breeds at all and only like 2 Asian breeds. Silkies

It seems the exact origin of polish crested chickens has been lost to the mists of time, they may have been brought to eastern/central Europe in medieval times by Asian mongols but we really don't know. We also don't really know where the name comes from. In most other European countries they're known as "dutch crest fowl" it's pretty much only English speaking countries that call them polish. It could be that they were named after Poland because they were believed to be from Poland (like how guinea pigs are named after the ports they came through to get to England even though they're native to south America). Or it could be in reference to their domed skulls or their feathered heads.

I have never heard of anyone classifying all crested chickens as "polish." There are a handful of very old breeds with crests (mostly the French breeds are coming to mind). Silkie chickens, which also have an uncertain origin lost to time, are crested and are sometimes called Chinese chickens, but I've never heard them referred to as Chinese crested chickens.
