Finally finished my chicken tractor but not happy with it.....So its back to the rework shop.
One thing I'm changing is the nest boxes.... I had them inside the coop but with an exterior door for egg retrieval. But I'm already short on floor space, so I am
moving the nest box to the outside of the coop. Second, the pop door was in the floor, thats gone, moved the door to the end of the coop.
Also the wheels are too small, and its a very heavy tractor. I can pull it until I hit the sand, this is Florida, we have sand.
I have a storage area above the nests, its now gone and in its place will be more ventilation.
But chicks are only 9 days old, so I have time.
Will post a picture when done.
QUESTION on the nest boxes...what if instead of solid wall between nests ( putting in 3) I have open air walls, ie screen or wire shelving cut and set vertical. Will this inhibit the hens, too public???
Thanks
btw,,,hot here today, was 95 degrees, babies were laying all over the floor of the brooder ,wings spread, legs stretched out ..turned off the lights. They seem to do better at around 85 degrees..
