I have had quite a chuckle over this. Sorry I am with Drake Maiden here . I wont even tell you how many roos run around and crow at my place.
But I do every now and then cull. Always the mean ones go first. Always. If they are mean to any of my hens or other roos. Bitting MOM is #1 reason to go asap. And I swear if you tell them you continue to bite me you go to the auction ( my culling). Some listen and never bite me again and others go to the auction.
I have one roo that attacked mom. I hatched him. He was sold and the softee bought him back a month later. Seems he does not like people. He is very happy now in a cage and mom is happy he is still alive and well.
My most favorite roo bit me when he was like a month or two old but he got over that cause some one carried him around each and every day afterwards. He is dork to the hens, has yet to learn dance before you mate idea.
I have one roo is not the beauty the others are but boy is he great to the hens! He shows them where the goodies are and will with them then when they lay eggs. He can crow all day long and I will still adore him.
Then there is Peanut and he is a most beautiful little cochin roo black with gold neck feathers. Tiny and will tell the world a pred is on the wing nearby.
Those are my top roos. And why they made the cut out of over 100 of them. I now try to get roos ( sold david),as soon as realize they are a roo. Before some excuse to keep them sets in.
I kept on silkie roo cause he is soooooooooooooo ulgy from a silkie breeder in NYState. He was sold to me as a buff egg. I keep him as a reminder of what not to buy, and he is very affectionate for a ulgy little guy.
OH I did find a new home for one little guy but he came back cause the hens were mean to him. Go figure.
Some days just would rather keep roos and sell my hens.
