Ok so I have 2 chukars, just the typical wild look chukar. However I've heard of Indian and Albino Chukar (Think its indian) Soooo heres my Q, what types of chukars are there? If anyone happens to have any for sale (I have $40 to spend

OK OK if your selling them I'd have to convince my parents) I'd be interested, since we have an area we are keeping them that theres nothing else (OK theres chickens and quails but the quails are going soon -didn't like them much, maybe a bigger breed, or females might be eter- and the chickens are seremas and tiny and theres only 2) , also, do chukars only lay eggs when they want to breed? Oh and if so when would the breeding peak be? (in case we have a female)Thanks in advance

A chukar is a partridge. Are you asking how many types of partridge? The APWS list 20 true species and who knows how many mutations are out there? The most commons ones are grey chukars, hungarian, albino, french red legged, barbary, bamboo, roul roul. There are some people that raise the more rarer birds, but they can get expensive.Your chukars should not be in or near your chickens.Chickens can give gamebirds diseases, the chicken can handle it,but it will kill the gamebirds.Chukars start laying around the same time as pheasants, early April-early august. They start pairing up and courting in Feb.So make sure you have them set up for breeding at the end of Dec and do not move them around, this will effect their egg laying.Have all your nesting baskets hung, straw on the floor of thier pen in Dec.and let them do their thing. The only time you need to bother them is when you are feeding and watering them, and don't forget their treats and grit.
