Hi everyone,
I’m Lauren, from the UK currently living in the Italian alps with my husband who is Italian! I’m fairly new to raising chickens, myself and my husband got 9 hens and a rooster in July, and then shortly after we got 7 chicks and their mum! So all in total we have 17, sadly one chick passed away a few weeks ago😢 the mum and her chicks are americanas, we have 3 domenicana, 3 big rey and 3 we got from a local by us so I’m unsure of their breed.(not sure if the breeds translate the same in English)
My husband and I are trying to live self sufficiently, we have solar panels, our own water system from the mountain, septic tank and we are currently learning to grow and preserve our own food, which is why we purchased chickens so we could have eggs off them daily! Plus they are great helpers in the garden and for composting! We also have a dog who we got from the local pet shelter, he had been there for 2 years, and also a cat we got from the vets who had been abandoned in a car park.
I joined BYC because everytime I would Google a chicken question, this forum would come up and would always answer my question, so I thought why not join! Looking forward to connecting to you all and hopefully learning a lot more about chickens!

Welcome to BYC!! The pics are awesome! :D

Sounds like you and yours are living an incredible life; I'm sure it's full of adventures! I enjoyed the photos (your lovely dog reminds me of a Great Pyr I used to have) and reading about all the things you are doing.

Welcome to BYC; folks here will be happy to help you in any way we can! Thanks for joining us, Lauren.
