One of our Buff Orpingtons, about 10 months old, must've tried making a nest (for some reason) on top of a plastic walmart bag. She got it wrapped really tight around her foot for at least a day. I don't know all the details because when my dad was telling me, that last part was all my brain registered.

I saw her sitting in the corner next to the nest boxes last night as I was doing a head check & locking up for bedtime; but I just figured she was still laying or maybe even just chillin, cuz sometimes she sets herself apart anyway. That's just Honey. But no, turns out my poor baby was STUCK there.

Her foot is super swollen. It's the same color as normal, no black or anything as far as I could just tell. She obviously has trouble using it so has mostly been standing on her good foot when she does try to stand. I'll try to get a picture if that'll help anyone help me.

What will happen? Will it heal or is the foot going to "die"? What can I do for her? Of course I gave her food & water, but what else? Should I put anything on it? Any natural remedies? Anything.

We love our girls. Spoil them. They're family, we will do everything to keep from having to put her down as long as she's happy. This was just an awful mistake :/

Give her some time. If she doesn't use it within a week and is still keeping it up quit a bit than i would go to the vets and see what you guys can do. She might need it to be amputated but don't rush too fast. Try to separate her from the others in a big enough confined area with some hay or something that wont hurt her foot to place on. Try not to let her perch, jump. or any thing that can further damage it Good luck!

Welcome to BYC. It's good that it was discovered before she lost all circulation in her foot. The swelling should hopefully go down in a few days since the color is normal. Just watch it closely to make sure it has not turned black. This sort of thing is easy to occur from strings and things accidentlly left lying arojnd. Occasionally baby chicks will get a hair around a foot, and the same thing can happen. Wishing your hen good luck.

Thank you all. Her foot looks the same today. She's mostly laying down but when she does move around she obviously limps, but she's used her bad foot to scratch herself and primp...don't know if that's a good sign or not.

Maybe I'll attempt with the ice. My only concern with that would be because it's already cold & I wouldn't wanna add to any possibility of frostbite. But we've got her staying inside the warm coop today.

Yes, only time will tell. I have high hopes now though that she will be alright

To prevent that maybe you could only ice her for very short amounts of times. Hope she feels better soon!!!
