Don't pull on the quills! They are painful for the chickens. My polish hens are pecked on too. It is the time of the year. They are more close together, and the hair/headdress is wet. Poor babies!
Thanks I needed moral support...I only have one polish hen ( this she's a polish....she's brown and black and bantam sized but has the "headress". But I have the Two Poli Roos... one 4 months older ( Hail Napoleon! Black with White headress ) and the sumbisive totally out of his mind fearful but loving Bagel...It's more than healing headwonds.. this poor giant chicken teen ager ran after a hen , launched himself at her from about 5 or 6 feet away.. landed on her back scaring her ( she may have thought he was a hawk with no courting dance) and then he was more scared than her, bounced off and ran away... poor guy... needs all the help he can get.. if the other roo sees him he's trying to run him off... not sure if anyone can advise me on this.. except this younger Roo already has at least a pound on the Leader of the Pack... who is also usually a sweety... two sweet roos.. dualing banjos. Whats Chicken Mama to do.. Shrug :)

I've isolated him to heal away from the chicken house and I'm going to let him free range at the same time as them in a few days as the only time I encountered pecking was in the hen house where the other roo would chase him at times but the hens would peck on him on the rooste. They don't really approach him in the field.. and if they do he runs away.. Thoughts?

I wish I had a field I could send mine to. I have one who is very loving and upbeat and the pecking doesn't get her down. My other one seems sad.
