Looking for some ideas how to keep our waterer clean (er). I dump the tray out daily to rid it of dirt and hay and whatever the ladies kick in it. But it greens up pretty quick. I try to wipe down quick ever other day or so, and clean when I refill. I just feel bad bc it gets so dirty so quick.

You can hang your water, place it up on bricks, use nipple waterers, pvc, water cups. .. lots of great options!
We do have it up on a block for now. But my main concern was how green it gets (algae I'm assuming) within a day or two

This works for me. I've cleaned it (rinsed it) one time in a year. The pic makes it looks like there is algae in the bottom of it. I assure you, there is none anywhere in it.

You can try putting a bit of Raw ACV (I like using Braggs) in the water container. It helps to stop the algae from growing and its great for the chickens. Is the sun catching the container? Might be another reason why the algae grows fast.

It does for part of the day, but not all day. I will try the vinegar though! Thank you!

That's what I'm doing now. Not that it's a hassle, just curious about other options. I'll just keep up what we are doing:)
To me, it's like a insurance policy- being satisfied with peace of mind that water born illness is prevented. We are in Florida, still water turns bad fast.
Go to the dollar store and buy a toilet brush. Snap off the handle and stick it in a cordless drill. zip-zip, scrubbing is done in seconds. Your birds will live a long and healthy life. And will thank you by providing you with breakfast eggs as a token of appreciation.
