i just got some quail eggs in mail and alot of them were busted .should i wash off the eggs.alot of them have a sticky feel to them.thanks

Personally I would. The hatching chicks could get infected by any bacteria that might grow from the decaying residue of the broken eggs. I hope you contacted the hatchery about the broken eggs. They should replace them or refund you the money.

The egg yolk is going to be difficult to get off and in scrubbing the eggs clean you risk breaking more and the act of scrubbing will most likely scrub off the protective mineral coating that is naturally on the outside of the eggs. It can also push bacteria through the shells. If you must clean them, wrap a warm damp cloth around them to soften the egg yolk/whites on the outside and wipe very gently clean.
