cleaning out feed tray

Does anyone have an ingenious method for separating the pine chips from the crumbles when they refill the tray? I hate to waste the last layer of food and it's usually littered with chips. I've tried screening with no luck.

No, we have to waste the food too. I think we are going to have to put the feeder on bricks to try to keep the chips out of it.

If you raise the feeder to the height of the shortest chicken's back, that should help keep the shavings from being kicked into the feeder in the first place. That's what I do.
