Cleaning out the run

Im new to the chicken thang and was wondering if you have to clean out the run everynow and then? Ive noticed where their feed was is a little wasted feed. I was finally able to hang the feeder up so they wouldnt waste so much! Do I need to scoop out poo/feed or will it just mix in with the dirt and...?

Our run is roofed so it stays dry. Though my birds are only 9 weeks old, I find that a wisk broom and a shovel is what I need to sweep up some manure from time to time. In winter, well, I guess it will be poopsicles!

I have a 75 sq. ft. run that I cover with straw. 2/3 of the run is covered. Every 2-3 weeks, I just rake it up and pile it in a compost heap. In the fall, I'm just gonna throw it on the garden and work it in.
