Cleaning Polish for a show?

Wash 'em CAREFULLY.

Some people I know go nuts on this part and use all sorts of chemicals and whatnot to brighten/bring out a color, but seriously, if their crests are not that dirty, use a mild soap- something like Ivory- and just wash as normal.

Remember that their natural oils take one-three days or so to come back, and then your bird will look his/her best. Good luck!

Is the lovely Frizzle hen in your avatar yours? GAWGEOUS!!!

Wow, very clear explanation, Crunchie! Thanks for telling me where the photo came from.

I bust my butt keeping my flock's coop & run clean and non-muddy so none of my flock ever get really filthy. (which proves I have no life) The most anybody gets their head dirty is when we turn into Pink-Crested Black if there's watermelon available.

I just cleaned 'em up and she looks good. SHE HATED IT! I used some vinegar water mixture and a little bit of soap. We may need to clean her crest again. Here she is: (old picture, just thought you'd like to see her.)

Well, I guess I have no life either...I hate having muddy chickens!! Most of my runs & breeder pens are in a metal barn. No mud. Ever.

But it's open to the south, so they get plenty of sunshine.

Sam, she's cute.

Good luck at your show! I hear that some folks have good luck with that Cowboy Magic spot remover spray (for horses), if you need to spot clean.

Yes, Iggy is very cute. I hope I place in showmanship or just the bird itself! We just had a 4-H meeting, and we are entering a project and we are selling candy bars as a fundraiser. It'll be a lot of fun.
