How gutwrenching! I'm wondering if my husband would notice if I added a few hens to our little flock. The rescue center isnt far from where we are.
I'm so glad we dont have to buy eggs from the store anymore. Our hens live in complete bliss compared to those birds.

I am SO CONFUSED by this. I called and asked if they would allow me to ship some hens to Wisconsin, because I could give them a good home here. I would be able to take at least 6 or 8 of them. I was told that they have no idea why people are calling them - these hens are NOT up for adoption. They don't even know if they will be placed or just euthanized. They don't have any estimated date on when these hens would even be evaluated for adoption. Most of them haven't been seen by a vet yet, etc.......

I really don't understand what is going on here. Does ANYBODY have any inside information???

I'm seriously tearing up right now. That video is horrible, and I can't believe anyone would be so heartless as to let chickens starve and die.
Some people just don't believe that chickens are animals- they believe they are products. But that is a lie, as everyone on BYC knows. They suffer, they feel pain, and some people close their eyes to situations like this. I have boycotted grocery-store eggs since my chicks started laying, and since I discovered how horrible battery hens are treated.
I believe California has the right idea, since they have started rescue agencies for battery hens, something the UK has excelled at as well. I would love to take in battery hens, but since I live far, far away, it obviously would never happen.
Thank you for posting this article,Tigeris, I hope it will bring some awareness to this major issue, and hopefully some California BYC'ers can open their hearts and coops to some of these poor hens.

They are not going to place out the very ill birds but they allowed a news article why are they so confused about this?

This is the same story that I posted about a week or so ago. I filled out an adoption form but they never got back to me, so I guess I'm not a qualified candidate
