Hi everyone. I was wondering what climbing plants are safe around chickens, but they won’t eat! If there is such a thing? Lol I’d like to have some growing on their run fence. Full sun.

Are you looking to get some shade into the run? You could try a roof.

Virginia creepers are safe for them, so are bougainvillea.
I like the idea of a vine covered run too!

Nope just for looks really. They already have a roof, I just want it to look pretty! Thanks for the suggestions!

on my fencing I like to use pumpkins. They grow big and viney and once they bloom and fruit you can feed pumpkin pretty much to all of your animals and yourself.

Another good one is rambling roses. Chickens will eat it so you have to protect it but you can use a small barrier around it until it takes off. They can only eat what they can reach. Also helps mask some smells.

I like to use pumpkins and watermelons around this time. Depending on your zone another awesome one I have is passionfruit! Cool flowers and you can eat them.

I also have rambling roses.

No matter what you plant you’ll have to protect to about the 2’ mark. A small piece of leftover hardware cloth or replace chicken wire with hardware cloth and use the old chicken wire for what it’s designed for…. Keeping chickens out
